"Sign Language" Series
Raised in the '70s and '80s by a loving committee of television, movies, & questionable advertising, I grew up believing jingles were life lessons and pop culture was a perfectly acceptable religion! (AMEN) That education still shows up in my work!
My paintings have always celebrated bold colour, nostalgia, and visual storytelling. Vintage signs fascinate me—they're part sales pitch, part time machine. A single weathered letter can transport us to a memory, whether we actually lived it or just borrowed it from Hollywood.
“Sign Language” is where all those obsessions collide. By pairing iconic pop culture quotes with weathered roadside signs, I turn familiar objects into punchlines, plot twists, and love letters to our shared cultural memory. They're playful, a little irreverent, and designed to reward a second (or third) look! These paintings invite viewers to laugh first, reminisce second, and maybe wonder why fictional memories can feel just as real as our own! ENJOY!
