ABOUT ROB
Rob,(who HATES writing in 3rd person) is in the midst of a transformational year in his art career. In May 2018, a studio fire all but destroyed his Toronto studio and his complete inventory of artworks. (YIKES!)
2019 is in fact, a landmark year for many reasons. It marks Rob's 15th year as a FULL-TIME professional artist! (Which is kinda like 30 years in regular-person-career years!) He has also completed about 1500 works of art! (Strange coincidence!) Rob has shown in over 125 juried & solo exhibitions and has participated in The Toronto International Art Fair, The Artist Project, The Winter One of a Kind and numerous art-trade shows! In the last year alone, he exhibited in Toronto, Caledon, Cleveland, California, Chicago (**all the big 'c' places!)
Rob is thrilled to have his art in the permanent City of Toronto’s Art Collection, and in numerous 'notable' private collections. He has been profiled in a few magazines and was also recently featured by The Jealous Curator (which is kinda a big deal for him!)
Rob's acrylic paintings are intentionally upbeat and humourous. His vintage-inspired work is instantly identifiable! It has a clever approach to pop culture that often merges political topics within whimsical compositions.

SIGN LANGUAGE SERIES
"As a child of the 70’s, I was mostly raised by television and movies. Advertising and pop culture became my religion and the wisdom I gleaned shaped my sensibilities as an artist. As a result, my paintings are a carnival of colour and whimsy.
Text is a central feature in my compositions. I love how a font can tell a story with a single flourish. Vintage lettering and signage gently manipulate us to feel a sense of longing for the past. Perhaps that is why my entire art career is shrouded in the bleary haze of pop-culture nostalgia.
My newest series of paintings is the culmination of all my obsessions. By integrating iconic movie quotes onto well-worn roadside signage I am merging pop culture, nostalgia and humour. This blend of elements creates something familiar and yet completely new!"
