"That's What She Said"
- Iconic Women in Film Presented by the Sybil Frank Gallery October 25th-November 17th, 2025. This new collection from my ongoing Sign Language series celebrates the unforgettable one-liners delivered by the powerhouse women who shaped cinema — and, let’s be honest, a few of our personalities too. Each painting pairs a quote from an iconic female character with a nostalgic vintage neon sign — lighting up those words (literally and figuratively) in bold, glowing tribute. Over the past two months, I’ve created fourteen brand-new works for this exhibition, alongside a few beloved classics. The research process was equal parts thrilling and frustrating. I discovered that while Hollywood has given us some incredible female voices, it’s still shockingly hard to find great lines from women that pass the Bechdel Test. (Thanks, patriarchy!) I’ve always been drawn to the strength, wit, and vulnerability of women in film — and this series is my love letter to them. I hope this exhibition glorifies those voices on screen and reminds us that there’s still plenty of room for more. I hope you can make it out to this exciting exhibition!
