Hey you guys!! So, this is a painting I did in 2015. It's good. I was happy with it. Well.....that is to say, I was mostly happy with it. Often times, I run my ideas past my closest friends and advisors - just to make sure that it is something THEY would want. For the most part it helps keep my work with a succinct theme and flava. (YES! I JUST USED THE WORD FLAVA!!! ;-) Here is a post I did on my old blog about this particular painting... robcroxford.blogspot.ca/2015/06/king-of-kensington.html CHECK IT OUT... But this painting is NOT what I wanted it to be about. I wanted it to be about appreciating Kensington Market, and celebrating it's reputation! I also wanted it to be kinda funny. It is not. So....this week I one back to the drawing board on this guy....and came up with this...... I LOVE it. I think it is funny. I think it tells the story that I want to tell the FIRST time i painted it. Kensington Market: it is extraordinary STILL.....and there is so much to see/do/buy there!
(Including fruit and weed!) The lesson here is, that maybe you should always go with your gut. OR maybe the lesson here is, it is never too late to change??? OR maybe it is just okay to say that NOTHING is carved in stone FOREVER!(or in this case painted in acrylic) So be open to the possibilities! I dunno....maybe it's ALL THOSE THINGS? What say you??? Have a great week y'all!!!!

It had been almost a MONTH since I have posted here. Those of you who follow me on Facebook and INSTAGRAM know why. And hey.....why aren't YOU following me on Instagram? I'm hella interesting! (See - I am using young people speak!!!) Anyways, THIS is what I have been up to.... It is a HUGE mural project that I have been painting with (and for) Cindy Scaife (her design!). The big underpass was commissioned by the City of Toronto and the stART Program. Which is AWESOME. So gallons and gallons of paint, and a month later...we are DONE!!! I was really happy with the final look....and so was Cindy. I am super grateful that I have such a talented friend that would trust me to paint with her! I will post photos and a video of the whole mural SOON! You also missed me putting up my work at The Pearl Diver restaurant: YES....it does look amazing! Go down until the end of December to see this work in person!! Go for the oysters, stay for the art! The Pearl Diver is at 100 Adelaide St E, Toronto! You also missed me announcing all the info for my upcoming showing at the One of A Kind Christmas Show. But I will dave those deets for another post NEXT WEEK! I also have a new retailer (I will talk about that next week too) and I am going to be installing some work in a coffee shop! (Details also next week!) AAAAND.... I will be doing the last Kensington Market Art Fair this Sunday October 30th from 12pm-7pm. It is gonna be sunny but chilly.....AND YET I still want you to come down and see me.....I will have my prints and postcards! I will also be debuting 3 STUNNING new limited edition Giclees! Now what makes these guys special, is that each one has a bunch of painted embellishments on it to make it slightly different. WHY DO YOU WANT ONE??? Because not only are they STUNNING, they are also nicely priced!! Generally my giclees on canvas are less than 1/3 of the retail prices of my original paintings! So it is a good deal for my work, and each is different....here is a sneak peak... Space Cowgirl, 24" x 36" - this is taken from an older work and I have reworked the composition a bit. I then spent a BUNCH of time repainting the colours and adding some fun additions!
This is available for $550 (plus HST) Transition, 24" x 24", $365 (plus HST) I accidentally ordered the WRONG size, I meant to order the 36" x 36" (which is also available -- you can special order it from me) But it is pretty nice in this size too! FINALLY I have: Decaying Slipper, 40" x 30" - $575 (plus HST) This is a photo reproduction of a piece that hangs in my house. I love it, and thought it would be a great one to share with you guys. Never shown, this one is a real gem! So there you go! I hope you can make it for the last KMAF of the season! THE KENSINGTON MARKET ART FAIR October 30th 12pm to 7pm 77 Nassau St WHEW!
