HAPPY WABBIT DAY!!!!! I know what you are thinking this time. ROB...ANOTHER BEACH??? Yes. There are 5 in total that I am immortalizing in paint! There are still 3 or 4 that ardent getting any love. SORRY. But in the meantime this is one of the more famous beaches for locals...and their dogs. I give you Cherry Beach: The last 2 are COMING SOON!
AND THEN.....just wait to see what I do NEXT! Hey.....got an idea of what YOU THINK I should do next? I'd love to hear from you!!! Still the most popular of my blog posts. My trips shopping for oddities! Please enjoy these photos! There you go!
I hope you enjoyed that! I have ANOTHER #bargainhunt ALL READY to go for next week! (there was a lot of treasure to see this past weekend!!) Say tuned for that NEXT WEEK! What with this BEAUTIFUL beach-like spring weather - it is no wonder that I am "beach-sessed" -- sorry - tried to marry the words obsessed and beach.....not great..... ANYWAYS, so this post is all about the latest painting in my beach work! There are 5 in total! You've seen the first one - The Sunnyside Beach (just scroll down) and here is #2. It is the Scarborough beach. YES! I HAVE painted the Scarborough bluffs before....it looked like this: It was all about the potential wind turbines going in along the bluffs. POLITICAL. BUT since that DID NOT end up happening, let's celebrate the simple beauty of the beach this time! YUP! Already making a postcard of this one!
I think it is gonna work great with the other new beach pieces! Whadda ya think??? HEY! Who's a busy boy??? I AM! I want to share my latest painting with you.... It is #1 in a series of FIVE paintings about the great and unique Toronto Beaches. Yes. We have MANY beaches here in Hogtown... Here is ONE: This is the final: "Sunnyside Beach" is a 36" x 24" Acrylic on canvas.
I LOVE IT! It will be a print and postcards for the summer! I HOPE you will consider adding this one to your collection!! Have a great weekend y'all! HEY! Busy days!!! I wanted to share the NEWEST postcards that I have! They are pretty great, and only available RIGHT HERE!!! First....I have "Golden Horseshoe" as a print, NOW as a postcard: The other postcard I now have is "Sign-sational". If you wanna read about the creation of this painting, you can read that post HERE! I am especially happy with the BACK of this postcard - it is a pretty awesome begin (insert pat on back here) So go BUY the postcards! AND YES, prints of this piece are also coming soon in May! So there you go!
You can buy them both for $3 a piece, here on my site! And remember - you can either pay to have them shipped - or you can pick them up at my studio space! THANKS GUYS!!!! TAA DAA! My newest original painting. IT IS BIG! (48" x 25") It is a love letter to the city I CHOOSE to live in! Thanks for being; lovely and loud, crowded and cramped and colourful and creative, worrisome and wonderful. Toronto. I love you EVEN DESPITE your flaws. Perhaps FOR your flaws! I hope you guys like this one too...... This one is like a graphic vintage postcard and was really different to work on for me.......see if you like it! I tried to work in a bunch of Toronto iconography. The Cinesphere, the beach, some flying rats (oh I mean seagulls) the skyline, a retro streetcar, the city hall, the Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square....loads of great stuff! World. Class. City. Here is how my painting process went on this one: Made some mistakes in the painting of this one, but FINALLY I got it right. There was a LOT more push and pull in the colours and the balance for this painting than I normally deal with! OOPS....but FINALLY here is the painting: "Toronto", 25" x 48" Acrylic on Canvas This one will be BOTH a print and postcards for the show season!
BUT YOU REALLY NEEEEEEEED this original!! ;-) HEY GUYS! This is my first #WonderfulWednesday post on this new blog. What is #WW ? It WAS a weekly post on my last blog - go back and check out one of the TWO HUNDRED previous posts... RIGHT HERE!! But then come back and I will share 5 things that have inspired me this lately! This post is regular - but not weekly - I hope you enjoy seeing the things that I LOVE! Here we go.... 1. Pavement at Fantasyland....I know it sounds weird. But the truth is I LOVE good design and I love details! I think it is important to have a real commitment to design details.....that is why I especially loved my recent trip to Universal Studios Harry Potter Land and Disney World....Here are 3 pictures of the pavement in the "New Fantasyland"! Each is themed! One with cart and horse tracks - one with peanuts (for the Circus area) and one with shells and such for outside the Little Mermaids attraction. AMAZING! 2. Wes Anderson paper dioramas....so, speaking of commitment to detail...these dioramas of Wes Anderson films by illustrator Mar Cerdà are wonderful! 3. Swimming -YUP! You heard me! Inspiration doesn't need to come from design ALL the time! I have been feeling reinvigorated by my late night swimming in Florida! As a kid and tween I LIVED to swim.......but then, as I get older my insecurities about being in a bathing suit got larger than my desire to swim! SAD STORY. BUT I think I am gonna start to embrace my mid-life and as such, start swimming again!!! HAPPY ENDING! (?) 4. Grey gardens the musical. I saw the Acting Up Stage production last week (it is closed now) AND IT WAS REMARKABLE! The acting was FANTASTIC and I was really moved by the second act!!! I HIGHLY recommend you go see what ever they do next. "Reframed" looks really cool for all my artist friends! Check them out and click below!!! 5. Finally - for a laugh........you must enjoy this...thanks CINDY for passing it along...... GOOD MONDAY! I am working away at the new studio, getting new stuff done for the upcoming show season! I have 6 new paintings ready to paint!! Look for more and more this month! Here is my recently completed painting from the Tin Toy Series... I showed you how it started...read about that HERE! "Robots Gone Wild" is a 36" x 24" canvas. It is based on those old 1950's magazines that you KNOW I am in love with. I tried to use some different colours on this one. I am not a huge fan of the colour orange, but here I think it works pretty well. I also tried to be a smarty pants about the HORRIBLE USD-CAD currency exchange. Here is MOST OF the process of completion... ...and then I forgot to take photos.....OOOPS! Here is what you missed - finishing the robot and the other bits - my dry brush white and spatter coat - my sepia was on the WHOLE piece - to age the look and 'tone it down' a bit! - adding coloured washes - adding the folds and rips - last minute highlights THEN....the final image: I think he turned out pretty good. Yes...for those of you who love robots but can't afford original art, there WILL be a print of this guy in the next couple months! Oh....and here is a sneak peak of the piece I am finishing currently.....I am about 1 day from finishing it - the photographing it!!! ....so more on this one later this week!!
Thanks guys!! There.I said it. Remember earlier this week when I mentioned my vay-cay.... Well here is some more about it! I've been back almost a week, and I keep getting asked to describe the colour of my skin...what level of tanned-ness I am...... My husband is calling it "Ballet White"....which is also the Benjamin Moore paint colour in my hallway....but truthfully that really is more of a beige. Which seems a little weird.....BUT being a people pleaser, I will... I'm calling my current shade of tan "Tropical Eggshell" (trademark pending)! ANYWAYS...here are some photos I NEEDED to share - some general weirdness! Then that is IT for Florida talk for a while..... What do you think of those???
I love to hear from you! |
